So You're Not Perfect

You were fired for laziness. In your next job interview, when asked why you left your previous job, it's tempting to say, "I was tired of the long commute." But it's wiser to tell the truth not only because it's honest, but because your employer might check references and because only a good soul would hire you--the very sort likely to help you succeed. So, 'fess up briefly, explain how you've changed, and conclude with, "I can understand why you wouldn't hire me, but I'm willing to hold out for an employer who will hire me knowing the truth. Might you give me a chance?
