A Simple Way to Create a Great Resume

By Marty Nemko

I've always had a thing for models, and I'm not talking about the kind that wear sexy dresses. What I mean is that it's easier to create things--for example, a resume--when working from a model. A collection of model resumes can be found athttp://career-advice.monster.com/resumes-cover-letters/resume-samples/jobs.aspx. From that collection, pick a resume with a job objective similar to yours and whose tone you find appealing. Model your resume after that one. Next, show a draft of your resume to trusted friends and potential employers. Revise. That's it. You're done. A resume should be a few-hour activity, not a few-week one--jobs are rarely won because of tweaking done beyond those first few hours. Move on to doing what will improve your job prospects: contacting potential employers.
