The Most Beneficial Field?
By Marty Nemko
Princeton University researchers inserted a gene into a mouse. As a result, the mouse dramatically improved his memory and that of his offspring. Such research offers hope for curing Alzheimer's disease, and, if we decide it's ethical, for improving normal people's memory and that of their children. Gene therapy is this century's hot field, promising to enormously benefit humankind. If I were job hunting--whether I was an accountant, a human resources person, a scientist, whatever--I'd try to get a job with a gene therapy-related firm.
