Mold the Job in Your Image
By Marty Nemko
Often, an employer knows he needs to hire someone but isn't sure how to best use that person. If, in a job interview, you can help clarify that the employer needs someone with your strengths, you may talk your way into a perfect-fit job. Early in the interview ask, "Are the job tasks clearly mapped out or do they depend on the candidate?" If there's some play, ask about the organization's needs. Then gently propose how the position might be structured to meet those needs and how your strengths would be well-suited. An employer's fuzziness can be your golden opportunity.© Marty Nemko 2004-2024. Usage Rights
