The Missing Link in a Networking Call
By Marty Nemko
You ask your friend if he knows anyone who could hire you. He responds, "No, but if I think of someone I'll let you know." That's California nice for "Sorry, bub." Even if he knew people who could hire you, he may not be convinced you're competent enough to risk sticking his neck out for you. So, without bragging, you must convince your networking contact that you are, indeed, terrific. How? In one sentence. "For example, "I've developed some pretty cool websites." or "On my last job, I got rated 'excellent' three times in a row."
What can you do today?Write one impressive sentence about your worklife. Reread it right before your next networking contact.
