If you fit the profile, headhunters can get you a lot: a job interview, prep you for it, evaluate your resume, estimate your likely top salary, and tell you which firms in your field are hiring. Who fits the profile? Professionals seeking a job similar to what they're currently doing.

What can you do today?
How to find on-target headhunters? Start with www.recruitersonline.com. Its database contains 8,000 headhunters, searchable by specialization and geography. Or consult the Directory of Executive Recruiters. For a culled list, ask human resources departments in target employers which recruiting firms they use when filling positions like the one you're seeking.
