The Even Greater Generation

By Marty Nemko

Tom Brokaw called the Americans that came of age in World War II, the Greatest Generation. But--laugh at me if you must--I believe an even greater generation is Generation X, those in their 20s and 30s. On average, they're less willing to sell their soul for profits, more trusting of their own self-efficacy than of politicians' pontifications, and are likely to work long hours only if they believe in the work's worthiness. I believe Gen Xers are an enlightened generation, one likely to make our workplaces and world better.

What can you do today?
If you're 40+, it's tempting to put down Gen Xers as less motivated than you are. You're not getting it. They're just motivated by different, often more important things. Cherish them.
